page 12 . . . The 10 Courts of Hell

And here, you see more active torture. *wince* In this one, I think the poor man was having his guts taken out.

And here's someone being crushed. -_-

Yes, all these scenes depict "divine" punishment--so to speak--since you were sentenced to these punnishments by a divine being. -_-

Being staked alive.

I did not take this picture either. *falls over* Ferrahn's here with the gutted man in the first picture on this page.

The displays are not enclosed by glass you could lean in and observe the many figurines (and place toys all around them ^_~).

Scary demihuman torturers.

This one is really being gutted. -_- It's a woman too.

A man being sawed into two.

This one looks like a child. *wince*

I think this is one of the officials presiding in the Courts of Hell.

Someone having his tongue cut out. I'm assuming he's being punished for having told falsehoods in life.

Severed limbs on display. -_- All these punishments are according to the crimes you'd done in life. There are punishments for almost everything. Each court judges different types of wrongdoings. I do recall that watching/owning porn was also considered a sin, though I don't recall which court you'd be punished in and what the punishment is. *grin*

This one is slightly happier. When someone is about to be reborn (the Chinese believe in reincarnation), this lady here gives them wine that makes them forget their past lives. After that, they go back to earth reborn as a new person who'll hopefully live a better life.

Interestingly, while the Chinese believe in reincarnation, they also believe in retribution. Someone who'd done exceeding wrong in their past life might find that punishment in the courts were not enough and thus would have a hard life when reborn. You might have heard of some Chinese folk commiserating about how they must have done wrong in their past lives to be living such a hard one now.

And interestingly, if you offend a god or deity (who are not unlike the capricious Greek gods) and you might find yourself living an eternity of hardship no matter how good you tried to be in each life. (I think there are probably one or two or more dramas centering on this whole idea.)

There's also the belief that if you were a horrible person in your past life, you might end up being reincarnated as a non-human, like a rat, or hen or pig, etc.

The lady giving the wine is off the left of the picture. I forget who this old lady is.

Haha. The scene actually is this moody-looking. ^_^;

The light throws a cool-looking effect on Ferrahn. ^_~
