Acquired Rapture :: album

Japanese Boys

Kęsh and Sakaki are strolling along the streets.
As usual the streets are thronging with
gaijin (foreign) tourists.

Sakaki: I'm still a bit hungry after that ramen. *sigh*
Kaesh: . . .
Sakaki: ? What's the matter?
Kaesh: There's a gaijin staring at us...
Sakaki: Kaesh, _all_ the gaijin are staring at us.

Kaesh: Let's go home. I don't feel comfortable.
Sakaki: Just ignore them, Kaesh. You know what the gaijin are like. Always rude and always taking pictures of you whether you want them to or not.
Kaesh: Yes, but...

Sakaki: Is that particular one taking pictures of us bothering you?
Kaesh: Let's go.
Sakaki: That's the idea. Just move on, and he'll find someone else to take pictures of.

Sakaki: We're not going home till I've had my fill. So just ignore them.
Kaesh: . . .
Sakaki: Just ignore them.
Kaesh: All right. I'll try.
Sakaki: *grin* Come on, I think I see a takoyaki stand!

Kaesh: *sigh* I don't like being stared at.

Sakaki: Oi! Kaesh, come here! I need to borrow some money.

Sakaki: That takoyaki was good, wasn't it? I feel like going back for seconds.
Kaesh: . . .
Sakaki: Should I?

Kaesh: *stares*
Sakaki: On second thought, let's get some ice!
Kaesh: Sakaki...
Sakaki: Yeah? What's the matter?
Kaesh: That gaijin followed us.
Sakaki: Eh?

Sakaki: Oi. I told you to ignore them.
Kaesh: But...
Sakaki: Ignore them! Just pretend they don't exist.
Kaesh: But...
Sakaki: Would you stop that!?
Kaesh: But he's walking towards us...
Sakaki: Eh?

Sakaki: . . .
Gaijin: fddgfleyhkgldfjh trotyreikhflsd ghfdlgy;tyotrp [translation: would you let me take some pictures of you?]
Kaesh: *whispers* What is he saying?
Sakaki: Er...I don't know. Oi, gaijin! Wakaranai, yo!
Gaijin: [Pictures. I'd like to take some pictures. Pictures. Shasshin?]
Sakaki: Shasshin? I think he wants to take some pictures of us.
Kaesh: Let's just go. *turns to leave*
Gaijin: [Wait! You're really beautiful. Please let me take some pictures. I'll pay you some money. Money. Can I? Please?]
Sakaki: Oi, Kaesh. He said puriizu. It'd be rude to refuse. *whispers* Also, I think he said he'd pay us. I'm broke and I want to eat some more...
Kaesh: . . .
Sakaki: Puriizu? *puppy eyes*

After a while... Kaesh and Sakaki are posing for the gaijin.

Sakaki: I wonder how much he'll be paying us.
Kaesh: . . .
Sakaki: Come on, it's only been a few minutes. He doesn't seem the bad sort.
Kaesh: It's a bit warm out here.
Sakaki: *nods*

Sakaki: I wish he'd hurry up. I'm getting hungry again.
Kaesh: He's taking a lot of pictures.
Sakaki: He'd better be paying us enough to buy three bowls of ramen.
Kaesh: Maybe we should ask him to stop.
Sakaki: I can take a few more minutes.

Ten minutes go by...

Sakaki: *sigh*

Kaesh: Are you all right?
Sakaki: Yeah, I'll be, once we get out of this sun.
Kaesh: Let's tell him to stop.
Sakaki: *nods*
Kaesh: . . . you tell him.
Sakaki: *grin* Oi! Gaijin-san!
Gaijin: Yes?
Sakaki: Kore made ii yo. SUTOPPU.
Gaijin: One more pose. One more pose, please!
Sakaki: *mutters* I wish we'd never learned what 'please' meant in English.
Kaesh: *smiles*

Sakaki: Do you think he'll give us copies of the pictures? I want to show kaasan and neechan our pictures!
Kaesh: Do you think you can make him understand you want the pictures?
Sakaki: . . . you've always sucked in English, haven't you?
Kaesh: *sigh* Yes. And you're not any better.
Sakaki: Well, I'll make him understand somehow.
Kaesh: *nods*

Kaesh: Sakaki?
Sakaki: Yeah?
Kaesh: Can we tell him to stop now?
Sakaki: I'm still thinking about how to tell him what I want.
Kaesh: Oh.
Sakaki: *sigh* My English just isn't any good.
Kaesh: Maybe we can call your neechan for help. She's very good, isn't she?
Sakaki: Excellent idea!

The boys stopped having their pictures taken, and with the help of Sakaki's older sister, they made the gaijin understand that they wanted copies of the pictures he'd been taking. Giving him their address, they left him promising that they'd receive their pictures in the mail when he had them developed. After that the boys bought their ramen and ices--Kaesh had to pay because Sakaki forgot all about asking the gaijin for their pay. But, he reasoned, the man was going to be sending them their pictures; it was payment enough.

And so yet another day on the busy streets of Tokyo ended.
