Khamiel has woken up, just as Feyn had said he would. Kamahn couldn't find it in him to be happy. There had never been a fear that Khamiel would never wake up no matter how long he slept. But Luthien...
He touched Evien lightly. Not even Evien knew if Luthien would come back. Today, Evien had withdrawn into himself. No amount of calling could get him to respond. He'd even stopped calling for Luthien.
"Don't leave," Kamahn whispered, trying to reach out for a response.
"Come on, Kamahn," Khamiel said from the door. "Let's go play."
He didn't answer. Khamiel knew he didn't want to play, but he was going to be overbearing and ask and demand it of him anyway.
"Kamahn," Khamiel whined. "Leave that stupid cat alone. He'd dead."
"No, he's not." Kamahn stared at Evien hard. No, he was still there, faint, but there.
"He is and you know it!" Khamiel walked up to him and looked down at the cushion with disgust. "Just look at him. He's not breathing."
"Go away, Miel."
"Let go of him, Kamahn."
"No."
Kamahn dragged Khamiel's fingers off his wrist and turned away. Khamiel would prefer it if Evien died; he'd never cared for him. But he wasn't going to let go. Evien would never give up on Luthien, and so, he won't give up on Evien.
"Just leave him alone, Kamahn."
"I don't want to play, Miel," Kamahn said firmly, not daring to look at Khamiel. "Just go away."
Khamiel glared at him. "I hope he disappears forever!" he shouted, slapping Kamahn across the face. "Don't let go then! If you do, I'm going to destroy him!"
Kamahn watched in dismay as Khamiel stormed out of the room. Now he'd gone and done it. He wouldn't dare to leave Evien even if he wanted to.
.
Feyn came into the living room some time later. "What's with the demon child?"
Kamahn kept silent.
"Let me guess, you didn't want to play and he got angry."
The grin he could hear in Feyn's voice made it worse to bear.
"You should have told him to go back to sleep."
Kamahn glared at him, and the expected careless shrug annoyed him worse than it usually did.
"Go make up with him, I'll watch over the cat." Feyn settled himself by the cushions. "Go on. We don't want him to decide to kill Evien and all of us in our sleep."
Kamahn looked at him gratefully--but not too much--and ran off. Sometimes, just sometimes, Feyn showed that he could be tolerable. And despite himself, he did hope that Feyn could help find Luthien.
.
Feyn sighed. "Lucky bastard," he muttered to Evien. There weren't a lot of things Kamahn would bother standing up to Khamiel for.
Carefully, he proded at Evien. No reaction.
Perhaps this withdrawal would be a good thing, he mused. No one believed Luthien had gone forever. Luthien was probably counting on the fact that Evien would be there whenever he wanted him. If he realised that Evien had cut himself off the way he had, he might just panic and return. That was one theory that he hoped might end up right anyway.
He pulled up the coffee table and arranged his work tools on it, already preparing in his mind what he'd say when Kamahn came back.
"I'm watching him, of course I am. It doesn't mean I have to keep my eyes on him every second," he muttered to himself.
